Current 2007 projects are a new 63 room boutique hotel is underway at the corner of US 41 North and Retta Esplanade.  The new (Sheraton) 103 room, mixed-use project on the waterfront at the US 41 bridge has submitted for building permits.   The Sun loft project at the corner of Marion and Taylor is now forming walls and we should see a completed 80,000 sf mixed use project completed by summer 2008. Bersons Up River development on Olympia Avenue of 20,000 square feet professional offices closed successfully and tenants are now moving in.  The times are exciting and the rebound is under way.  The Charlotte County Historic Court House is being restored and the Charlotte County Events Center is now under construction.
Berson Development is breaking ground on Taylor Business Center a mixed-use office/warehouse project just south of Jones Loop on Taylor Road.  1200 square foot commercial condo units are as low as $164,900.  Just down the street is the new Super Wal-Mart now under way and will be opening by the end of this year.  Encompassing 200 acres in desirable Punta Gorda is the large mixed-use project, The Loop. The development is moving forward quickly with Phase 1 slated to break ground in the latter part of 2007. The project will contain nearly 1 million sq. ft. of retail, 800 residential units, 100,000 sq. ft. of office and 200 hotel rooms. In addition, Charlotte County is getting a boost from developer Syd Kitson, who recently donated $3 million and 67 acres - a gift worth $7.6 million to Florida Gulf Coast University so the school can establish a Center for Environmental Research and Outreach.  The research center will be at Babcock Ranch, an 18,000-acre site where Kitson plans to build a mixed-use development just on the outskirts of Punta Gorda!

The Charlotte County Airport Authority has sold 87 acres to Publix Super Market, which will build a distribution facility near the airport.
